Four Floating Pebbles

Sound Poems from the Cornfields

I have a favourite crossroads by the cornfields. I was thinking of how to capture its aura. I decided that rotating a random pebble in your fingers describes it well: Such a simple object, but with a sense of belonging.

So I was rendering a video with nothing but rotating computerized pebbles. For the soundscape, I have borrowed the way techno musicians distort samples and put them into repeat.

I take completely natural ambient crickets and motorcycles recorded on-site and make a disorienting pseudo-rhythm of it. There is this Zen-like clarity and dignity of the echoing soundscape in connection with the crevices and undulations of the softly bobbing pebbles.

I guess this is video art reduced to the basics - change and duration. But if you immerse yourself in it you will have the 100% authentic country crossroads at your disposal.
