Homage to Memphis

Lush Abstract Landscapes

It is liberating to draw nothing but rectangles. I have created a series of byzantine-flat1 dioramas of clifftops and abstract buildings with a Memphis2 coloration.

With this Homage to Memphis, I wanted to convey a sense of depth and rythmic forms. It is amazing how alive the waterfalls and plants look if they are more imagined than there. This is something you are always told but need to see.

While I see a connection to Fischinger's sound poems3, the underlying structure is given by minoan architecture4.

Specifically, I was musing about how the human condition could be expressed in terms of a labyrinth without walls. Is it unfair? Is it interesting to explore?
