The "Universal Pattern Primer" is an ongoing project, aimed at releasing an up-to-date monograph on repeating designs. It expands on the formula of historical pattern sourcebooks still in circulation with several improvements in methodology, material selection, presentation, annotation, consideration of symmetry. Above all it is specifically geared towards artists as opposed to historians, mathematicians or anthropologists. It is also most interesting if one is not particularly inclined to actually use ornamentation in ones designs, understandable considering the current state of suspense concerning the subject matter. Rather it is a general introduction firstly to the world surrounding ornaments and their makers, their visions, talents and aesthetics and it is a source of inspiration regarding colours, arrangements p.p. from which anyone can glean new impetus for design on a more general basis, as one could imagine hanging an abstract tile in a museum.
